Transmission systems

Being transmission system operator our knowledge cover a wide range of disciplines in large power systems including grid planning/analysis, high voltage components, project management and O&M.

With a high number of islands in our region we have installed and own/operate a variety of submarine cables, from 10kV to 132kV and from oil filled to XLPE cables. In addition we have carried out the installation of the KONTEK 400kV HVDC submarine cable connection from Denmark to Germany.

The southern part of our region is densely populated with wind turbines including large offshore wind farms. Over the years the installed wind power has by far exceeded the local consumption. This has given us much knowledge on integrating wind power into a relatively weak grid and in the recent years the wind power has lead to extensive transmission system reinforcements.

Network reinforcements

Due to the growth in wind power in our region, including the Nysted and Rodsand 2 offshore wind farms, a number of network reinforcements have been made in the recent years.

The major parts of these reinforcements include:

1999 due to growth in onshore wind power

A new 132 kV line - 25km XLPE land cable
A new 50 kV line - 10 km XLPE land cable
Modifcation of a 50/10 kV transformer to 132/50/10 kV

2003 due to the Nysted offshore wind farm

Upgrade of 3 sound crossings - 132 kV XLPE submarine cable, total of 10 km
A new dynamic phase compensator – 65/80 MVAr SVC
A offshore substation at the Nysted offshore wind farm – 33/132 kV
A new 132 kV export cable system to Nysted offshore wind farm – 18 km land cable and 11 km submarine cable
